指示代词的用法及总结

　　(1)this/these：
①近指，指靠近说话者的人或事物，如：This is my bike. 这是我的自行车。
②指下文将要提到的事情，有启下的作用，如：The accident happened like this. 事故是这样发生的。

 
　　(2)that/those：
①远指，指远离说话者的人或事物，如；That is his bike. 那是他的自行车。
②指上文已经提到的事情，有承上的作用，如：I’m sorry to hear that. 很抱歉听到那个信息。
③that和those可用于比较结构中，分别代替上文提到的单数名词、复数名词，以避免重复。如：The weather in Moscow is colder than that in Beijing. 莫斯科的天气比北京的冷。The buses of Xiamen are more than those of Anqing. 厦门的公交车比安庆的多。
　　(3)such意思是“像……一样的人或事物”，如：He is a child, and must be treated as such. 他是一个孩子，必须像这样对待。Such is life. 这就是生活。
　　(4)so意思是“如此；这样”
①用在believe, think, expect, suppose, guess, hope be afraid等动词后，代替一个宾语从句。否定式用not。如：Is that Tom? 那是汤姆吗？Yes, I think so. 是的，我想是的。Will he go with us? 他将和我们一起去吗？I hope so. 我希望这样。
②代替上文所说的内容，避免重复，放在句首。动词有say, hear, notice, believe等。如：Mary failed in the exam. 许多人考试不及格。So I heard. 这我听说了。
　　(5)the same意思是“同一个/同样的人或事物”，如：Whatever I did, he tried to do the same. 无论我做什么，他都尽量做同样的事。
　　【说明】指示代词用作主语和定语时，可指人或物；用作宾语和表语时，只指物。如This is my father.this在句中作作主语，可以指人，但是在Do you know this?中，this作宾语，此句只能理解为“你知道这个情况吗？”不能理解为“你认识这个人吗？”

　　表替代的that与those

　　有时为了避免重复，可用that和those代替前面提到的名词：
The population of China is much larger that that of Japan.中国人口比日本人口多得多。(that=the population)
His views are close to those of the Socialist Party.他的观点接近社会党的观点。(those=the views)
